12 speaker cabinet Boss Tuner pedal Boss chorus pedal Dunlop "Wah Wah" pedal Ernie Ball Strings gauge 9 - 42 Ernie Ball glass slide Dunlop signature picks Sings through a Shure "57" microphone Plays Hohner "Special 20" harmonicas "I use the white Flying V for most of my current playing and I keep the red "V" in reserve in case I break a string. Both guitars are recent vintages. The white V has stock pick-ups and the red one I have customized with replacement Gibson pick-ups. My Les Paul I use for slide...it gets me the right tone for playing the song "Tell Mama" which I recorded back in 1972...with a Les Paul Junior. I have changed my top string to a gauge 10 so as to break less of them when I play. I like the lighter strings ...they respond better to my vibrato. I play through the overdrive channel on my amplifier and use the natural distortion generated from that. If I need a cleaner, lighter tone I simply back off the volume knob on the guitar. On my amplifier I always have my bass and mid controls turned to ten with the treble backed way down. I like to sing through a Shure "57" because it has the right "eq" that suits my voice. The Special 20 harps are made with a lot of plastic and I find those easier to play than the old Marine Band. I'm comfortable using any slide but the glass ones are light and more appropriate on my light string gauge." |
