Painting is another way for me to improvise...another way for me to channel my artistic energy other than through the guitar. As with the guitar, I am entirely self-taught. I do have a large library of art books that nurture me.
I paint guitars, abstracts, landscapes and still life (which about covers everything)! The guitar is a subject I know well. And they say to paint what you know.
Painting is an ongoing learning process. I use brushes and the palette knife to apply paint to canvas as well as various other implements that may be on hand... paper towels, rags and so forth.
Because my artwork is invariably improvised from my imagination, I hope it therefore has freshness and appeal. I paint quickly. I paint with emotion more than technique. I'd like to think of my creations, although serious, as decorations and I try to make my works playful and attractive. People have told me my paintings entertain them. Anyway, above all, I hope they are unpretentious.
To this point I have painted for myself and as an emotional outlet but now I'm hoping to find an audience to sell my works to and therefore create some space in my studio!
I am inspired by many styles although my own muse veers towards abstraction. Of course, my biggest inspiration is the fact that I will be dead in thirty years...time is short.
